Rare art – stereogram

An exhibition of stereograms by graphic designer Loreta Roževičiūtė-Elksnė was exhibited at the “Prienų kultūros centras”. This time the author and I are talking about the positive effects of stereograms on the eyes?

Let’s remind the readers what is a stereogram?

A stereogram is a picture that has a fine pattern similar to wallpaper. Looking deeper into it reveals a secret – another spatial object emerges from it. In this year’s exhibition, a bee, a bird, the sun, a lily were “hiding” in the round paintings. Looking calmly into the distance, through the drawing, an “invisible” object gradually emerges. It causes people wonder and joy.

Does the stereogram strengthen the eye muscles?

Replacing the close look with the far look is called eye muscle strengthening training. Looking at the horizon will give your eyes a rest. When we are in the office or room, we look at nearby objects (table, phone, monitor), at that time the eye muscles feel tension.

You can practice by placing a 3D postcard on your desk or looking at a 3D picture hanging on the wall.
It is important to take your time so that your eyes do not get tired.

There is a lot of handwork in your work…

The purpose of “Vėjo rožė” is to draw by hand, not to create patterns for stereograms on a computer. The technology involves a lot of manual work, so paintings are born after a month, and large formats even after six months. I plan to create paintings that we would transfer to the walls of the house.

Are there creative ideas that support Ukraine and peace around the world?

Hmm, even before the start of the war in Ukraine, I felt a strong inner impulse to create the painting “The face I’ve been waiting for all my life” with a portrait of Jesus. We have been working with a sculptor based on the famous Shroud of Turin for several months. I will hide the portrait in a two-meter-high stereogram.

As we joined the whole world in prayer for peace and victory for Ukrainians, I realized how important the birth of this portrait was to me. It’s about Love and Trust. I hope he sends a personal message to everyone.

Thank you for conversation. Good luck with your creative ideas.
