Celebrating Čiurlionis’ 150th Anniversary, we invite you to visit a unique large-scale artistic installation in Palanga, by the Sea Bridge – the 3D image “Three-Dimensional Sea Sonata.”
This three-dimensional artwork has already been included in the list of exceptional Lithuanian achievements.
The exhibition, created by Loreta Roževičiūtė-Elksnė together with the creative group “Vėjo rožė” (“Wind Rose”), is mounted on a 3.5-metre-high metal easel. “Three-Dimensional Sea Sonata” is inspired by the work of M. K. Čiurlionis. The visual pattern is based on the painting Sonata – Allegro, while the hidden 3D image recreates a scene from Sonata – Andante. It is one of the largest autostereograms in the world – measuring 1.6 by 2.5 metres.
An adjacent information board provides not only instructions on how to view the 3D effect, but also features Čiurlionis’ own poem The Sea, reflecting the artist’s deep love for this natural element.
An autostereogram is a two-dimensional image that conceals a three-dimensional object, which can be seen by focusing the eyes as if looking into the distance. Viewing autostereograms can evoke a sense of stepping into a mystical space, often bringing strong feelings of joy to the viewer.
