Presentation of the 3D autostereogram “Three-dimensional tale” at the M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art

On 25 October, at 15.00, at the M. K. Čiurlionis National Museum of Art (V. Putvinskio str. 55, Kaunas) the presentation and meeting with the author of the 3D autostereogram “Three-dimensional tale” by Loreta Roževičiūtė-Elksnė and her creative group “Vėjo Rožė” based on the work of M. K. Čiurlionis was held at the National M.K. Čiurlionis Art Museum.

The museum’s space was decorated with Loreta Roževičiūtė-Elksne’s 3D autostereogram based on M. K. Čiurlionis’s painting II from the triptych “The Fairy Tale”, in which there is a hidden child with a dandelion seedhead and a mystical bird flying. The format of the work has been enlarged and changed from a horizontal to a vertical one of 1.42 x 2.30 m. This format was chosen to create an optical impression of a carpet, as if weaving the connection between the earth and the sky by reinterpreting and reinterpreting rhythmically recurring motifs of M. K. Čiurlionis’ works “Creation of the World VIII”, “Creation of the World IX” and “Creation of the World XI”. The autostereogram created for the M. K. Čiurlionis Museum of Art is one of the largest in the world.

Čiurlionis often used rhythms based on the sounds of music in his artworks. Observing the active pattern of the autostereogram and plunging into the depths of a three-dimensional tale, the viewer is invited to experience the sounds of the inner music as well, creating his own interpretation of the sounds.

From now on, you can see this autostereogram by visiting the museum.

Looking at the autostereograms effectively strengthens the eye muscles and helps them to relax. It is a great way to rest tired eyes, especially for those who work with computers. Stereograms are also used in art therapy due to their positive emotional impact.

Loreta Roževičiūtė-Elksnė (b. 1980, Kaunas) graduated from Kaunas Antanas Martinaitis Art School in 1999. She studied at the Vilnius Academy of Arts, Kaunas Institute of Arts and in 2004 obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Textiles. Since 1995 he has been interested in autostereograms and their creation. In 2016, she founded the creative group “Vėjo rožė”, which helps to implement the author’s creative projects. Today, “Vėjo rožė” collaborates with eye clinics in the application of stereograms for eye exercise and presents her work in national and international museums. She has created exhibitions of 3D works: in 2019, “True things are not seen by the eyes”, based on Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s “The Little Prince”, and in 2022, “Garden of Paradise”, an exhibition of stereograms. The work of “Vėjo rožė” is distinguished by the fact that the stereograms are hand-drawn and in large formats.
